Discovering My Love of Reading for The First Time

I got home from the day at the mall, the big purchase today was a Kobo eReader. It should be noted that reading is not a strong point of mine nor has it ever been. So then you may be wondering why on earth I bought an eReader?

My friend got one for her birthday and recently I started to play with it (she and I now own the Kobo touch) I realized that one of the biggest reasons I didn’t enjoy reading was the font size as I would visually fatigue quickly.  The Kobo allows you to magnify beyond sizes that most people would be comfortable reading.

The one thing I love about the Kobo touch is that all it allows one to do is read ebooks. There is no temptation for distraction by the ability to listen to music or go online (except to their store) note that the Kobo cannot therefore handle audio books.

Since setting it up at around 830pm today I am over halfway through the Canadian classic “Anne of Green Gables the first in the series by Lucy Maud Montgomery, I was so engaged in my book I almost missed writing this post on time! Oh and another thing I love given the seemingly formal language  in this book is that the Kobo has a built-in dictionary.

About lifeofthedifferentlyabled

Laura Forde founded her blog through my eyes: my life with cerebral palsy in December 2009 out of a great need she had, realizing that there was a vast gap in firsthand accounts of what life was like living with Cerebral Palsy: she knew then that the only way to see this reflected online was to create the change herself and thus this blog was born Laura was born four months premature, weighing a mere one pound three ounces and given ten percent odds for survival. She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of three. After graduating from college, she continued writing and doing what she loves to do most; speaking to groups about her life experiences and sharing what she has learned from her journey. Her blog lifeofthedifferentlyabled was created after discovering that the online community lacked the voice of people in her situation. In its first year, the site saw over 20,000 hits from all over the world. Her readers are from all walks of life; some with disabilities, parents of children, professionals, and others who seek to gain a better understanding of the world of the differently abled. Hi Laura,
Sounds like you are having a blast with the Kobo eReader. I was thinking on getting one but now that tablets can do more. Like on android apps you can download and it will read the word to you. I am looking at getting toshiba excite x10 tablet (Comes out in Canada some time this year) and its runs on android. Why did you just pick a Kobo eReader vs a tablet?

Ya it can get distracting with all the apps. lol Cool! Sound like a cool tablet but I am not a real fan of 3d yet.
