When you dream do you dream that you’re disabled?

Someone recently asked me this question and I am not sure if the answer is the same for everyone so I thought I would answer the question.

The question is: When you dream do you dream that you’re disabled? I do,dream of my cerebral palsy because that is all I have ever known now had I acquired the disability later in life that probably would change my answer

About lifeofthedifferentlyabled

Laura Forde founded her blog through my eyes: my life with cerebral palsy in December 2009 out of a great need she had, realizing that there was a vast gap in firsthand accounts of what life was like living with Cerebral Palsy: she knew then that the only way to see this reflected online was to create the change herself and thus this blog was born Laura was born four months premature, weighing a mere one pound three ounces and given ten percent odds for survival. She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of three. After graduating from college, she continued writing and doing what she loves to do most; speaking to groups about her life experiences and sharing what she has learned from her journey. Her blog lifeofthedifferentlyabled was created after discovering that the online community lacked the voice of people in her situation. In its first year, the site saw over 20,000 hits from all over the world. Her readers are from all walks of life; some with disabilities, parents of children, professionals, and others who seek to gain a better understanding of the world of the differently abled. 1. I too have cerebral palsy in my dreams. I even avoid escalators when they appear in my dreams!

Sometimes it is obvious that I am disabled but other times I really don’t know. Hmm good question!

Yup but my CP feels different in the dream world. My CP friends have CP in my dreams too if they are in the dream. I always wondered if blind people dream that they are blind?

  4. Crip Video says:

Oh and if I fall in a dream my real Moro Reflex wakes me up LOL. It feels like a jolt. Do you have a startle reflex when you sleep?? Might be a good topic for another post.

  5. Samantha says:

I have always dreamed that I could walk; even when I was reliant on a chair, I would go to sleep dreaming that I could run and dance, but when I woke up it was a kind of misleading disappointment to discover that I couldn’t do those things in the waking world. Before my illness, I was a very active kid, the transition from someone who could do most of what everyone else could do, to a kid who had to play modified sports was quite the transition, one that my dreaming self never quite accepted.
