Cerebral palsy is an umbrella term that describes brain damage caused by lack of oxygen before during or after birth, Typically cerebral palsy is officially diagnosed between the ages of 3 to five years. Based on what i have read medically they hold off on diagnosis because some kids are simply delayed in their milestones.
late diagnosis of cerebral palsy
i don’t think it’s possible to receive late diagnosis of cerebral palsy as it is caused by brain damage before during or after birth and based what i have read about cerebral palsy, i am not totally clear on this but i suspect after you reach the age where one is typically diagnosed in childhood it would simply be labelled as something else? If anyone knows the answer to that please enlighten me.
can cerebral palsy get worse as you get older
cerebral palsy itself does not get worse but things related to it can. Because as i understand it, brain damage is a stable condition, It is what it is and does not change once you have it. At least in terms of being caused by cerebral palsy it does not get worse.
The key markers that make up the signs of cerebral palsy can change over time in my case spasticity changes with the season. In other words when its cold my muscles sort of shut down and forget how to function and are generally uncomfortable.
symptoms of cerebral palsy in adults
Honestly, symptoms as an adult don’t generally change from when you were a kid. I mean to paint a realistic picture your mobility needs may change with age but what older adult doesn’t see their needs evolve with age
