bussing adventures

This past Wednesday, a fellow disabled friend, and a personal care attendant and I travelled by bus to a metropolitan area just an hour away. We took a bus, a bus from a major national busline, and were unsurprisingly disappointed. I had used them twice before without a hitch. The last time I used them, previous to this trip, I was stranded in my hometown and by virtue of the lack of accessible buses without previous notification, the trip was cancelled. This time I decided I’d give them the benefit of the doubt. I called two weeks before, that same day they called back, to give me the conformation code. My friend also received her code so as far as I was concerned the trip would now go off without a major problem.

I WAS WRONG! The day of the trip we arrived in plenty of time. The 8:40am bus arrives and is inaccessible we are told but that driver that the bus will be there within the next half hour. We were finally able to board an accessible bus at 10:05am and made it to our location around noon. We had a fun filled day of shopping friends and food we then went to the bus stop for our bus we were told to be there for 8pm which we were . when we got there we saw the driver looking angry that we hadn’t been there half an hour early, and because of this we were told that he was unable to take us. In our defence, we were told by the person on the phone that we had to be there for 8pm not 7:30pm. After some confusion on the part of the bus line we all made it home intact and tired, but it was an adventure to say the least and a day for many reasons that I will never forget.
